Yetunde Reeves
Welcome to EXCEL High School and the Principal's Page. I am honored to be the Principal of such a wonderful and dynamic school. It was a dream come true to be able to design a small school with staff, parents, and students. EXCEL High School is a "work in progress" and every day staff, parents, and students work together to improve our school.
I am a native of East Palo Alto, CA and was raised by my parents (both educators) to be of service to my community. I was raised to believe that a community is not only the place I reside, but also the place and city where I work.
I graduated from the University of New Orleans with a BA in History and a Minor in African American Studies. I earned a MA from UCLA (Go Bruins), as well as a MA from Mills College. I am currently a doctoral student at Mills College in the Educational Leadership Program.
We strongly believe that every student has potential for academic success and leadership. We hope that every EXCEL student will attend a 2 or 4 year college and use their education to improve the community. At EXCEL, we believe in students' potential, but also their ability to impact change at our school, in the West Oakland community, and the world.
We are educating tomorrow's leaders and are commited to ensuring that they have the academic skills, academic confidence, enrichment opportunities, and exposure that they need to be competitive in all of their endeavors.
We look forward to working with students, families, staff, and community in providing educational opportunties for students. Ghandi said, "you must be the change you wish to see in the world" and EXCEL HS is preparing leaders, activists, and change agents.
