Read about the exciting program offerings. All 9th and 10th graders are required to participate in at least one program 60 hours per marking period.  Free snack served daily.  Visit the library for a schedule or more information.

Alternatives In Action Programs Offered:
Executive Team
Leader= Cara Johnson
2x a month. Thu 5-7pm.
Leadership body of 8 select students are paid a stipend to help manage after school programs and run community projects. Applications due on Friday Sept. 25.
Legacy Studios

Studio 501. Mon/Wed.
Open to all grade levels, students will learn how to create, record, mix, and master their own music using programs such as Garage Band, Logic Pro 8, and Reason.
9th Grade Leadership

9th Graders have the chance to shape their freshman year by creating, planning, and running different community outreach projects and field trips.
Multi-Cultural Dance

Dance Studio in Gym. Mon.
Open to all students. Come learn about different kinds of dance including modern, salsa, ballet, and jazz and participate in performances open to the community.
LIG-IT (Let It Go)

Wed. and Fri.
Whip yourself into shape by understanding healthy eating habits, exercise routines, personal choices, and factors that lead to a healthy lifestyle. Transform your body and mind one day at a time.
Speak Out!
Leader= Cara Johnson
Tues. Library.
Learn communication through acting, writing, and speaking. Help to write, edit, format, and distribute a school wide newspaper once a marking period. Learn to use your voice for positive change.

Improve your driving skills and knowledge by completing a driver's ed. course. Regular attendance and completion of assignments required for credit.
CAHSEE Prep

Mon-Thu before tests. 4-6.
Prepare for the California High School Exit Exam using online resources such as cahsee.revolutionprep.com and other workbooks. Passing score = 350. Proficient= 380.
YMCA Turf Dance

Building the self-confidence and esteem of youth through dance and character empowerment workshops. Expose yourself to a variety of dance types and performances.

Kids First: Real Hard

Learn leadership skills by addressing issues facing students on EXCEL's campus. Run culture campaigns to make changes. Participate in Youth Forums to voice your opinion.
Urban Debate

Learn to argue in a constructive way. Join 5 of the Bay Area's top debaters to travel and compete in formal debates. Learn research skills, oral speaking, and quick thinking.
