After School Programs through MYFC

McClymonds Youth and Family Center offers after school programs daily from Mon-Thu (3:45-6pm) and Fri (12:30-3:30). All 9th and 10th graders are required to complete a min of 60 after school hours. Students will receive a grade AND earn 5 electives credits on their report card. Visit the library for more information or contact Ms. Cara Johnson at CJohnson@alternativesinaction.org.

Executive Team
Leader= Ms. Cara. Weekly meetings + 2x a month cross site meeting. Thu 5-7pm.
Leadership body of 8 select students are paid a stipend to help manage after school programs and run community projects. These students work with other E-teams from 4 other schools to develop leadership skills. Must interview into program.

Legacy Studios
Leader= James Sherwin. Studio 501. Mon/Wed. Open to all grade levels, students will learn how to create, record, mix, and master their own music using programs such as Garage Band, Logic Pro 8, and Reason.

Pathway to Leadership
Leader= James. Studio 501. Tues/Thu.
9th and 10th graders have the chance to shape their school year by creating, planning, and running different community outreach projects and field trips. Participate in character development workshops and build the skills needed to become future leaders of the school.

Girls Group
Leader= Simone. Library. Mondays.
Join a girls only group to discuss topics relevant to you in a supportive, confidential environment. Participate in interactive activities and dynamic group discussion.

LIG-IT (Let It Go)
Leader= Jasmine (Dream). Wed. and Fri. Library and Track.
Whip yourself into shape by understanding healthy eating habits, exercise routines, personal choices, and factors that lead to a healthy lifestyle. Transform your body and mind one day at a time.

Speak Out!
Leader= Cara Johnson/Rob Jackson. Wed. Library
Join a committed group of student leaders to speak out about topics important to the safety, climate, and culture of the school site.

Drivers Ed. Room 200. Leader= Dr. Taylor 7:15am.
Improve your driving skills and knowledge by completing a driver’s ed. course. Regular attendance and completion of assignments required. Sign up with Dr. Taylor

Academic Learning Lab: Cyber High and CAHSEE Prep
Leader= Arthur Jackson. Monday and Tuesday in EXCEL computer lab.
Leader= Mr. Lucas on Wednesday and Thursday in Room 202.
Students can sign up for Cyber High accounts to work on credit recovery, use CAHSEE Revolution Prep to prepare for the state exit exam, complete typed assignments, work on Senior Project or use CSNAV for College Summit.

YMCA Turf Dance
Leader Cornelius “Skywalker”. Tuesday Room 219. Thursday in Auditorium.
Building the self-confidence and esteem of youth through dance and character empowerment workshops. Expose yourself to a variety of dance types and performances.

Academics For Success
2 Tutors in Math/English. Room 222. Mon, Tue, and Thu
Need extra help with homework? Come see the AFS tutors for support. Extra interventions in reading/literacy on Tuesday. Workshops for CAHSEE prep and SAT prep.

Real Hard with Kids First Oakland
Leader- Rob. Tues/Thu after school. Lunch on Thu. Room 213.
Learn leadership skills by addressing issues facing students on EXCEL’s campus. Run culture campaigns to make changes. Participate in Youth Forums to voice your opinion. Participants are eligible to receive a stipend for completing the curriculum. New cohort begins on Tuesday, Feb. 23.

Urban Debate
Leader- Ms. Bendich. Mon/Fri. Room 306
Learn to argue in a constructive way. Join 5 of the Bay Area’s top debaters to travel and compete in formal debates. Learn research skills, oral speaking, and quick thinking.

Mack Mural Project
Leader- Deb. Tues. Art Room 307
Work to complete the Mack House mural that will be hung by basketball courts. Learn ceramic glazing and firing. Work on art skills.

Art Esteem: Elements of Art
Leader- Danial. Monday and Wednesday in BEST Art Room.
An art and social justice program that uses the arts as a tool for self-esteem, community-building, academic and emotional literacy. Art Esteem provides visual art, cultural art and fashion design.

Cardio Kickboxing
Leader- Negar. Every Wed. in Cafeteria.
Work out with professional fitness instructors in this fast-paced, fat-blasting, ab-defining cardio! No experience? No problem. You'll learn how to jab, cross-punch, hook, and uppercut to dance music.

Boys and Girls Moving Forward
Leader- Shavonne and other tutors. Fri 12:30-3:30 in Room 222.
District sponsored tutoring program for students who need academic intervention, assistance with CAHSEE, or other one on one homework help. 1x a week in tutoring room next to library. Must be applied for by parents or students to participate.

Senior Project Support
Leaders- Ms. Lantos for EXCEL in Room 206. Wednesday and Thursday 4-5pm.
Dr. Taylor for BEST in Room 200.
Get support in researching, writing, and editing senior projects. Earn after school program hours by completing community service hours and interning in community organizations.
